New York, 01/17/2023 - OVRSEA, the next-gen digital freight forwarder, announces the appointment of Matthew Martel as General Manager for the United States. Following the opening of the company’s New York office in February 2022, the nomination of Martel supports the expansion of the company in the second-largest freight forwarding market in the world.

With an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BS from West Point, Martel has spent over a decade managing high-performing teams in contexts ranging from the US Military, to emerging market finance, and tech-enabled logistics. Prior to joining OVRSEA, Martel was a Principal at CrossBoundary, an investment firm focused on underserved markets, where he focused on disruptive technology companies in scaling in the Middle East and North Africa. He previously managed new market expansion for Zipline, a medical logistics startup, and is an alumni of Bain & Co's Private Equity Group, where he focused on tech-enabled services. Martel began his career as a US Army Officer, where he flew the Apache helicopter and managed aviation organizations across the US, Europe, and the Middle East.

His nomination signals OVRSEA’s commitment to scaling its service in the United States. It allows the company to better serve its existing customers in Western Europe with strong ties across the Atlantic, and expand its digital offering to a wide range of new customers.

Martel’s focus at OVRSEA will be to grow the US sales and operations footprint, with a team of 10 in New York City. He will also oversee the opening of a second office in Miami in January 2023, and other key hubs in the near future, to make the US OVRSEA’s first market by 2026.

This Miami hub will enable OVRSEA to better serve its European clients shipping to Florida, with strong synergies coming out of Spain, Italy, and France. Additionally, a dedicated sales team will be tasked with serving local US clients in the South East region and further developing new trade lanes, with a strong focus on Latin America. As a digital freight forwarder, OVRSEA is committed to being part of the vibrant tech scene that developed in recent years in Miami and recruiting talents locally to support its ambitions.

"I’m convinced of the value technology can bring to what we think as traditional sectors like logistics. In an era of global supply chain disruptions, the need to transform our approach to freight forwarding, and to do so sustainably, is greater than ever. I was impressed with OVRSEA's commitment to providing an unmatched tech experience to supply chain professionals and its mission to help shippers steadily move to more climate-friendly modes of transport. I am excited to support the team in scaling this commitment to the US." Matthew Martel, Managing Director USA.

"We are thrilled to welcome Matt as our new General Manager in the USA. With over 15 years of experience in high-performing environments, Matt brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the role. Matt is a strategic leader with a proven track record of driving business growth and overseeing successful scaling. We are confident that he will be instrumental in guiding our team to achieve our $100M turnover objective in the USA by 2025." Arthur Barillas de Thé, CEO.
